DIME BOX WOMAN ARRESTED FOR HINDERING APPREHENSION

A Dime Box woman has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that left a suspect dead and put a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy in the hospital.
51-year-old Mary Vega of Dime Box was charged with Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution.
The charge stems from a case that occurred on May 10 when members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Vega’s relative, 64-year-old Raul Vega Perez of Dime Box.
Perez had failed to appear for a scheduled court date after being indicted for Sexual Assault of a Child-Enhanced.
Authorities had received a tip that he was at a residence in Dime Box. Four deputies and a DPS Trooper went to the residence and once inside, they attempted to make contact with Perez.
Perez opened fire and struck Deputy Jordan Mastronardi twice in the collarbone. The other officers shot Perez and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mastronardi was taken the hospital. He has since recovered and has returned to work at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Texas Ranger Brent Barina investigated the case and presented evidence to the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury returned a true bill against Vega for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, which is a third-degree felony.
Vega was arrested on Monday without incident, and taken to the Lee County Jail in Giddings, where bond was set at $20,000.
