WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS VOTE ON BUDGET AND TAX RATE TUESDAY
The Washington County Commissioners Court is scheduled approve the budget and tax rate at their next meeting on Tuesday morning.
The Commissioners will be holding a public hearing on the proposed 2023 Budget for Washington County.
Despite lowering the tax rate, the budget is expected to raise more revenue from last year’s budget by almost $1.7 million, which is a nearly 8% increase.
Of that amount, over $600,000 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year.
The proposed tax rate is 38.60 cents per $100 valuation, which is a drop from last year’s rate of 50.32 cents per $100 valuation.
The proposed rate is just under the rate needed for voter approval, which is 38.63 cents, but above the no-new revenue rate of 36.68 cents.
It is made up of 29.56 cents for the Maintenance and Operations of the General Fund, 8.26 cents for the Maintenance and Operations of Farm to Market and Lateral roads, as well as 0.78 cents for principal and interest on the debt.
In other action to be taken by the Commissioners, they are expected to approve a Resolution to call for additional measures to secure the border, and stop the invasion at the border, and protect our communities.
The Commissioners will also be approving a Proclamation declaring September 17th-23rd as Constitution Week in Washington County.
Although the burn ban has been lifted, they will take official formal action to approve it.
The Washington County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday at 9am at the Courthouse.
