WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS PROCLAIM ‘PAINT THE TOWN PINK THURSDAY’

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Washington County is once again getting involved to promote health and wellbeing.
County Commissioners at their meeting today (Monday) proclaimed October 20th as “Paint the Town Pink Thursday”, an annual observation for the victims and survivors of breast cancer.
Lisa Hibbeler, Head of Radiology at Baylor Scott & White in Brenham, says the month of October serves as a reminder and a call to action to get screened for breast cancer, as early detection can save lives.
Per Hibbeler, a good rule of thumb from the American Cancer Society is that women should have their first mammogram between the age of 35 and 40, potentially sooner if there is a higher risk with family members who have been diagnosed. After that, they are encouraged to get checked annually, but Hibbeler says the most important thing is getting the screening done.
Last year, Baylor Scott & White – The Brenham Clinic unveiled new 3-D mammography equipment, allowing for more and greater quality of mammogram images.
A kick-off to Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:30 a.m. at Baylor Scott & White – The Brenham Clinic, where tours will be given of the Hasskarl Giddings Imaging Center. The annual “Paint the Town Pink” celebration will be held on October 20th.
