REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS MARCH HELD IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM
Local and area residents met in downtown Brenham this (Saturday) morning to hold a march for reproductive rights.
An estimated 50 to 75 people gathered at the courthouse square in protest of Texas’ restrictions on abortion.
Marilyn Schulz, president of the Washington County chapter of Texas Democratic Women, says women’s rights are not a partisan issue.
Schulz says the new abortion law affects everyone in some way and encourages the public to “take their rights in their hands.”
A similar march was held in downtown Brenham last fall following the passage of Texas’ ban on abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually around the six-week mark of pregnancy. The new law bans abortions at all stages of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is threatened.
