BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER CANCELLATION AGREEMENT WITH DREAMLINER DINER AT AIRPORT

The Dreamliner Diner at the Brenham Municipal Airport may be moving on.

On Thursday, the Brenham City Council will follow executive session discussion with possible action on a cancellation agreement with Dreamliner Diner, formerly known as Canion Kountry Bakery and Restaurant, related to the lease for the restaurant portion of the terminal building at the airport.

According to the agenda packet for Thursday’s meeting, city staff met recently with owner Mindy Canion and discussed mutual termination of the lease rather than renewing for an additional year.  The exact details of what led to Canion’s decision to not renew the lease are unknown at this time.

If the termination agreement is approved, December would be the Dreamliner Diner’s last month of operations at the airport.  The termination agreement would last through January 31, 2023 in order to allow all property and equipment belonging to the diner to be removed from the building.

The Dreamliner Diner first opened at the airport on December 17, 2021.  The restaurant space was formerly occupied by Southern Flyer Diner.

Several other items will come before the council in executive session.  They include the appointment of a presiding judge and associate judge for Municipal Court for two year terms ending December 31, 2024 and determining their compensation; utility matters pertaining to the city’s gas utility system; and legal matters concerning the raw water intake structure at Lake Somerville, as well as City of Brenham v. WTG Gas Marketing, Inc.; Cause No. 37573; 335th Judicial District Court, Washington County; Aviators Plus, LLC v. City of Brenham, Texas; Cause No. 37896; 21st Judicial District Court.

Also on Thursday, the council will:

  • Hold work session discussion on the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library and the recent Texas Recreation and Parks Society Rodeo at Hohlt Park.
  • Act on accepting a bid for improvements to the Hohlt Park nature trail.
  • Consider the use of $6,536 in felony forfeiture funds for forensic DNA testing services
  • Take action on an ordinance amending the city’s adopted budget for Fiscal Year 2021-22.
  • Vote on changing the zoning at 1150 Dixie Road, which belongs to Brannon Industrial Group/Premier Metal Buyers, from Local Business Residential Mixed Use to Industrial Use.  The Planning and Zoning Commission gave a recommendation to approve the zoning adjustment at its meeting November 21st.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
