KWHI CELEBRATING 75TH ANNIVERSARY

KWHI is celebrating 75 years on the air.

This Thursday, a ribbon cutting will be held at 4:30 p.m. to mark the 75th anniversary of KWHI, which signed on the air for the first time on May 8, 1947.

After the ribbon cutting with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, food, fellowship and door prizes will be offered until 7 p.m. as part of the Young Professionals Organization of Washington County’s Networking Happy Hour.  Family, friends and supporters are invited.

For anyone interested in learning about KWHI’s history, our website has several pages that chronicle the station’s past, including a timeline of major events, audio archives, old photos and videos, previous staff members, and the various vehicles utilized by KWHI and our sister station, KTEX-106.

  1. I can remember back in the 70’s when there was always a big noon meal served at my in laws and grandparents in laws home even in the hottest part of the year. My father in law would never ever HEAR of not having the radio tuned to KWHI so that all of us and him, could hear the local news. To this day, if I sit down at a big meal at noon, I remember those voices and the talks that went on around the table after the news was ‘done’…thank you KWHI for keeping us informed then and now..

  2. Thank you KWHI for being a wonderful supporter of so many youth programs in Washington County from calling ballgames of all kinds, sharing 4-H and FFA banquets live and being present for graduations, band concerts and other important community youth ceremonies, we all appreciate your support in broadcasting and publicizing the good things our youth are doing in this community, both on the air and now online. You have been doing this a long time and helped share good news for many generations of folks’ lives. Thank You and Congratulations on your 75th Anniversary!
