BLINN FALL 2022 ENROLLMENT UP NEARLY 3 PERCENT FROM LAST YEAR

Blinn College’s enrollment figures for the fall 2022 semester show an increase from the previous year by nearly 500 students.

The Blinn Board of Trustees received an enrollment report today (Tuesday) stating that the College enrolled 17,554 students this fall, a 2.79 percent increase from 17,077 students in the fall 2021 semester.

Vice Chancellor for Student Services Dr. Becky McBride said a majority of campuses saw an increase in student headcount.

Brenham Campus enrollment increased to 2,066 students, up 13.89 percent from last fall.  Enrollment at the Bryan Campus rose 7.74 percent over the previous year to 6,628 students, while RELLIS climbed to 3,046 students, up 10.52 percent from the year prior.  Sealy Campus enrollment tallied at 41 students, up 5.13 percent from a year ago.  Schulenburg Campus numbers decreased from last year by 1.51 percent, with 65 students attending.

Distance education enrollment came in at 3,752 students, a drop of 16.54 percent from fall 2021.  High school dual credit registration, however, increased 14.81 percent to 1,830 students.

The College also saw a 3.54 percent increase in contact hours, time during which a student receives active instruction as part of a course.  The College reported 3,170,000 contact hours for fall 2022, compared to 3,061,680 in fall 2021.  State funding is based in part on an institution’s contact hours.

The board also approved a partnership with Barnes and Noble College called “First Day Complete” to implement a textbook program that would bundle all required textbook prices into a $24 per semester credit hour textbook fee. Through the partnership, Blinn students will receive textbooks at heavily discounted prices and have access to those materials before the first day of class.  Students will have the choice to opt out of the program and obtain course materials independently.

In other business, the board:

  • Authorized the College to negotiate and execute easement agreements with the City of Brenham related to approximately 6.11 acres in Washington County.
  • Adopted rules to accept electronic bids or proposals.
  • Received a presentation of the audited Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for Fiscal Year 22.
  • Authorized the College to negotiate and execute agreements for the purchase of real property in Washington County. The item authorizes the purchase of property at 1111 High Street in Brenham, adjacent to the campus, for $95,000.
