WINTERS TO CLOSE OUT HIS COLLEGE CAREER IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The path to the National Championship has been a long and winding road for TCU Linebacker Demondrick “Dee” Winters.
Winters was a four-year letterman for the Burton Panther Football Team under Head Coach Jason Hodde.
Back in those days, Winters played both ways. He was used on offense as a wide receiver and on defense as a linebacker.
Winters was the District MVP during his sophomore year, and the Co-District MVP during his junior year. He was also second team All-State his senior year.
In addition to football, Winters was a gifted baseball player. He came up through the Washington County Little League and was a second team All State player for the Burton Panthers.
As a Freshman at TCU during the 2019 season, Winters played in 11 games and had two starts for the Horned Frogs. His biggest game came against Purdue in which he was named Athlon Sports Defensive Freshman of the Week.
Winters became a full-time starter for TCU during his sophomore season in 2020. He was second on the team that year with 65 tackles.
During his junior year in 2021, Winters started all 12 games and led the team with 74 tackles. This included a career best 12 tackles in one game against West Virginia.
As a senior this season, Winters was chosen as one of the team captains, and received first team All Big-12 Honors. He has 72 tackles, which is fourth on the team, and 7.5 sacks, which is second on the team. Winters also had a memorable interception return for a touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl against Michigan that helped propel TCU into the title game.
The CFP National Championship Game is this Monday at 6:30pm at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
