BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SMALL AREA PLAN AGREEMENT FOR BRENHAM FAMILY PARK LAND
The City of Brenham is moving forward with the creation of a small area plan for the approximately 600 acres that surrounds the proposed Brenham Family Park.

discusses some of what his firm will do in the
creation of a small area plan for the land containing
the proposed Brenham Family Park during
Thursday's Brenham City Council meeting.
On Thursday, the Brenham City Council approved a professional services agreement with Kendig Keast Collaborative (KKC) for consulting services to produce the plan. The plan acts as a document to cover potential uses, community needs and cost considerations for developing the combined 600 acres around the area west of the Brenham Business Center, south of Highway 290, north of the Brenham State Supported Living Center and east of Highway 36.
City of Brenham Development Services Director Stephanie Doland said feedback from residents will be a strong component of this plan, both from landowners included in the 600 acres and from the general public.
KKC is the same consulting firm that was utilized by the city to develop its comprehensive plan, finalized in 2019. Doland said while the comprehensive plan is a document that governs the “big picture”, the small area plan provides ground-level detail in a focused location.
Pieces of the plan would include determining what the physical features and environment are within the 600 acres, the benefits and disadvantages of development, current and projected traffic counts – along with possible road realignments and additions, such as extending Blue Bell Road to Highway 36 South – and financing mechanisms or funding possibilities.
Gary Mitchell, president of KKC, said a focus of this plan will be how to utilize this land not just for the Brenham Family Park project, but for new residential opportunities.
The agreement to create the plan will not exceed $70,000. The timeline for completion is seven months.
