CUBS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER OVER RUDDER, WHEATON GETS 100TH CAREER WIN

The Brenham Cubs picked up two important district wins last (Tuesday) night in Caldwell. The Cubs swept a doubleheader over the Rudder Rangers 12-0 and 7-3.

The win in game two was career victory #100 for Brenham Cub Head Coach Chase Wheaton.

In the first game, Brenham got the scoring started in the top of the first. Lane Sparks walked, stole two bases, and then scored on an RBI double by Drake Bentke.

The Cubs added two more runs in the top of the second. Sparks drew a bases loaded walk that scored Grant Rogas. Meanwhile, Jacob Mabie was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which scored R.J. Ratcliff, and put Brenham up 3-0.

In the fourth inning, Rylan Wooten singled, Sparks walked, and then Jacob Mabie unloaded a three run homer to increase the lead to 6-0. Mabie's blast was a $290 winner in the Buccaneer Home Run inning for Blake Dooley of Round Top.

Brenham got another run in the fifth inning when Rogas doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by Preston Lee to make it 7-0 Cubs.

Brenham wrapped up the scoring with five runs in the sixth. Sparks had an RBI double, and Mabie slugged his second homer of the night, a two run shot. Bentke was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI single by Barrett Kohring. Kohring later scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-0.

Sparks pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out eight.

In the second game, the Cubs scored two runs in the third inning, Jacob Mabie hit an RBI single that scored Grady Gee with the first run of the game. Lane Sparks scored on an error.

Brenham then added four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two run double by Drake Bentke and a two run single by Gunner Gee to put the Cubs up 8-0.

Rudder managed to get three runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 8-3, but that would be as close as they would get.

Brody Hemann got the win. Bentke came in to get the final two outs.
