GUNS AND HOSES BLOOD DRIVE TO HONOR ONE OF BFD’S OWN

  

The next Guns and Hoses Blood Drive two-day event is going to be in honor of retired Brenham Firefighter Darrell “Potsy” Meyer.

The drive will be held on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, at the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 1100 Niebuhr Street from 9am-3pm both days.

Meyer is a thirty-year veteran of the Brenham Fire Department and was employed with the City of Brenham for twenty years.

“Potsy” as he is affectionately called by his friends and fellow firefighters, was diagnosed with Leukemia a couple of years ago and has fought the disease fiercely ever since.

The fight has involved more than 400 platelet/blood products in the form of blood transfusions, infusions, and a stem cell transplant.

He has been in and out of remission and still needs more blood products to continue his battle.

Meyer is currently in his third clinical trial, and is having chemotherapy three times a week, while trying for permanent remission.

The Brenham Fire Department said that the Meyer family will be grateful for any donations that are made in his honor. 

Coffee and Max Donuts will be served in the morning by “Potsy” himself, and a light lunch along with refreshments will be served in the afternoon by his army of volunteers.

All donors receive a free T-Shirt, and a thank you from Meyer himself.
