INDEPENDENCE TO HOST FIRE & ICE COOK-OFF FRIDAY, SATURDAY

  

The annual Fire & Ice Cook-off gets underway tomorrow (Friday) in Independence. 

Teams will meet tomorrow evening on the Independence town square for the start of the competition, which will include the steak shootout and margarita categories.  Saturday will have beans, chef’s choice, chicken, brisket and ribs throughout the day. 

Mark Rosenbaum of Independence Community Events says money raised from the cook-off goes towards the restoration project for the old school house.

Cash prizes will be presented to the winners, including in the steak shootout where there will be $1,000 awarded to first place, courtesy of Southern Star Trucking and Brenham Iron Works.  Second place will win $500, sponsored by Cattleman’s Brenham Livestock Auction.  Third place will receive $250, sponsored by Schulte Cattle Company.
