CUBS WRAP UP SEASON WITH A 3-2 LOSS TO LAKE CREEK

The 2023 season came to an end for the Brenham Cubs earlier today (Saturday) with a 3-2 eight inning loss to Lake Creek. With the win Lake Creek clinched second place in District 21-5A.

The Lions got on the board in the second inning with a solo homer to make it 1-0 Lake Creek.

Brenham broke through in the fourth inning when Gunner Gee reached on a single. Eric Aschenbeck later brought him home on an RBI double to tie it 1-1.

Senior Pitcher Mason Finke got the start and pitched a gem going 6 1/3 innings allowing just three hits, one run, two walks, and striking out two. He would ultimately get a no-decision.

The game ended up getting rained out on Friday night, and resuming Saturday morning. In the eighth inning, Jacob Mabie walked, and then his courtesy runner Grant Rogas scored on an RBI single by Grant Rogas to put the Cubs up 2-1.

However, with Lane Sparks on in relief, Lake Creek walked it off with a go-ahead two-run double to win it.

The Cubs finish the season at 18-14.
