DEE WINTERS DRAFTED BY SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Former Burton Panther Dee Winters is going to the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. Winters, who played his college ball with the TCU Horned Frogs was taken with the 39th pick in Round Six on Saturday.
Winters was a starter during his four seasons in high school under coach Jason Hodde in Burton.
As a Freshman at TCU during the 2019 season, Winters played in 11 games and had two starts for the Horned Frogs. His biggest game came against Purdue in which he was named Athlon Sports Defensive Freshman of the Week.
Winters became a full-time starter for TCU during his sophomore season in 2020. He was second on the team that year with 65 tackles.
During his junior year in 2021, Winters started all 12 games and led the team with 74 tackles. This included a career best 12 tackles in one game against West Virginia.
As a senior this season, Winters was chosen as one of the team captains, and received first team All Big-12 Honors. He has 72 tackles, which is fourth on the team, and 7.5 sacks, which is second on the team. Winters also had a memorable interception return for a touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl against Michigan that helped propel TCU into the National Championship Game.
