BRENHAM CUBETTES OPEN AREA ROUND SERIES WITH PFLUGERVILLE
After a thrilling bi-district round series with Lake Belton, what do the Brenham Cubettes do for an encore? Everyone will find out starting tonight (Thursday) as they open up a best-of-three series with the Pflugerville Lady Panthers.
Brenham is the #4 seed out of District 21-5A. They finished in a tie with Magnolia for third, but lost a one game playoff.
After losing the first game to Lake Belton 3-0, Brenham came back with a 3-0 win last Saturday, and a 2-0 win this past Monday to take the series. The Cubettes are now 26-12 on the season.
Brenham is lead in the circle by junior pitcher Della Jasinski, who is 23-9 on the season with a 2.16 ERA and 258 strikeouts in 188 1/3 innings pitched.
Sophomore shortstop Avery Maurer leads the team at the plate with six homers, 30 RBIs, and a .436 average. She is also second on the team with 44 steals.
Junior first baseman Kaylyn Rodriguez has a .415 batting average with two homers and 43 RBIs.
Junior outfielder Halle Scheel has a .348 batting average with 26 RBIs, and leads the team with 56 stolen bases.
Sophomore Outfielder Sarah Mabie is second on the team with four homers and 32 RBIs. She also has a .330 batting average.
Meanwhile, Pflugerville finished tied with Elgin for second place in District 23-5A. They are 23-6-1 on the season and finished district with an 11-3 district record.
They beat Elgin 4-0 in a one-game playoff to get the #2 seed, and then crushed Austin McCallum 19-0 in the Bi-District Round.
Game one of the Area Round series is tonight (Thursday) at 6:30pm at Alumni Field in Brenham. KWHI will broadcast the game live beginning with the pregame at 6pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
Game two will be tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm at Pflugerville. Should a third game be needed, it will be thirty minutes after the conclusion of Game One. Each game can be heard live on KWHI.
The winner of the series moves on to face the winner of Lake Creek vs. Elgin in the Regional Quarterfinals.
