While her house was destroyed, a Fayette County woman and her dog are still alive thanks to a quick-thinking deputy.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Wednesday night around 9:40pm regarding a structure fire on Plum Church Road off Highway 71.  The caller said someone was still in the house and could not get out.

The La Grange Fire Department, the Muldoon Fire Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Fayette County EMS units were dispatched to the scene.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher with the Sheriff’s Office arrive on the scene to find a wooden structure residence that was heavily engulfed in flames.

Neighbors advised that a lady was still inside the residence.  Sgt. Meagher attempted to contact the female resident through a bedroom window so he could attempt to get her out.

Meagher was advised that there was a door on one side of the house, which he ran to and was able to get both the female occupant and her dog out of the house fire, and over to her neighbors.

She was treated by the EMS for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, which by then had fully engulfed the residence.

A trailer next to the residence had also burned, and there was damage to other exposures as well.

The cause of the fire is under a further investigation.
