BRENHAM ISD TO SERVE FREE MEALS THROUGH FEDERAL MEAL PROGRAM
Brenham ISD has announced that it will operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2025-26 school year.
Schools that qualify to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price and paid student meals.
Brenham ISD says this approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.
Brenham ISD trustees voted in June to participate in the program, which operates through a federal reimbursement structure based on the district’s Identified Student Percentage and is expected to cover all meal costs through federal funds. Socioeconomic data from families is collected as part of the annual enrollment process, rather than individual free or reduced-price meal applications.
