CITY OF BURTON ENTERING INTO STAGE 1 DROUGHT PLAN BEGINNING SUNDAY

The City of Burton will begin its stage 1 drought contingency plan effective Sunday morning at midnight.

In a notice sent Wednesday to Burton water customers, the city says data from the past several weeks on daily water usage and continued drought conditions indicate the need to institute restrictions.

The city asks customers to:

  • Voluntarily limit their irrigation of landscaped areas with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems.
  • Limit outdoor water use to Mondays for water customers with a street address ending with the numbers 1, 2 or 3; Wednesdays for customers with an address ending in 4, 5 or 6; and Fridays for customers with an address ending with 7, 8, 9 or 0.

Irrigation of landscaped areas is limited to the hours of midnight to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to midnight on designated watering days.  Irrigation is permitted at any time if it is by means of a handheld hose, faucet-filled bucket or watering can of five gallons or less, or drip irrigation system.

  1. Please clarify last paragraph.
Is hand-held watering by hose truly allowed “at any time” – meaning ANY DAY of the week? Or is it to be allowed at any time ONLY on DESIGNATED day of the week??
