SALES TAX REBATES UP IN WASHINGTON CO. FOR AUGUST

  

Sales and tax distributions for the month of August were up for all Washington County entities.

The county reported an August rebate of $423,449, up 5.69 percent from last August, when it received $400,631.  So far this year, the county’s receipts total $3,329,216, up 2.03 percent from the $3,262,746 up to this time last year.

The City of Brenham obtained a rebate of $905,890, an increase of 3.74 percent from the $873,157 it received in August of last year.  Over the course of 2026, the city has taken in $7,052,347, up 0.68 percent from a year ago, when it had received $7,004,194.

The City of Burton’s rebate this month was up 44.42 percent from year to year, receiving $14,435 in comparison to $9,995 this time a year ago.  The city’s collections are still down 10.25 percent from last year at $104,727, versus the $116,696 brought in through August 2025.

Comptroller Don Huffines reported local sales tax allocations of $1.4 billion for the month of August, 13.6 percent more than August of last year and 6.7 percent up for the year to date.

Allocations for August are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly and on sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
