BURTON FALLS TO HOLLAND IN SEASON OPENER 31-14

It was a rough night for the Burton Panther Football Team as they fell to the Holland Hornets in the season opener 31-14.

Burton received the opening kickoff, but on their first play from scrimmage, fumbled the ball away. Holland's Gavin Cruz would score on a 37 yard touchdown run. Hornet QB Desi Cantu then found Marc Grinnan for the two-point conversion to make 8-0 Holland with 10:57 left in the first quarter.

Cantu would later score the Hornets' second touchdown on a one-yard run and Jose Arzola kicked the extra point to make it 15-0 Holland with 2:32 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers were able to finally get on the board in the second quarter. Burton Senior QB Colby Beck was able to punch it in from three yards out. D'Mitry Schulte kicked the extra point to cut the lead to 15-7 at 9:02 mark of the second quarter.

Cantu would cap the next drive with a three-yard run. The extra point was no good. That made it 21-7 Holland with 6:36 to go in the first half.

In the third quarter, Cruz scored his second touchdown of the game for the Hornets and Arzola added the extra point to make it 28-7 at the 5:22 mark.

Burton would get on the scoreboard as Tyrone Gilmon ran one in from 24 yards out. Schulte added the extra point to cut the lead in half 28-14 with 43 second left in the the quarter.

Holland had the lone score of the 4th quarter on a field goal by Arzola with 8:50 left in the game to make it 31-14.

The Panther (0-1) will face Hearne next Friday, September 1, at 7:30pm The game will be played at Snook High School.
