Washington County Precinct 3 Commissioner Kirk Hanath has announced he will seek another term.

Hanath, who has served in office since 2004, will run on the Republican ballot in the March 2024 primary.  His current term expires in December 2024.

Through his time as county commissioner, Hanath says he has grown to understand the importance of developing strong working relationships with other county officials and departments, as well as out-of-county leaders.  Also crucial, he says, is being able to take a strong stance on matters of importance and defend that stance.

A Brenham native and a graduate of Brenham High School and Blinn College, Hanath says he has been involved in numerous challenges in county government that had to be met with sound leadership.  Those challenges range from interlocal agreements with other government institutions to the creation of policies meant to provide fairness and clarity.

Hanath says the commissioners court is currently working on several projects he deems vital to the continued growth of the county and its preparation for the future.  Some of those projects include the county’s purchasing policy, broadband, remodeling of the jail kitchen and a new file storage facility.

Hanath says his philosophy for county government is using a “common-sense approach” and believes every challenge requires the gathering of as much information as possible before making the most informed decision.

Hanath says he “would be honored to continue to serve the citizens of Washington County with integrity, dedication, and hard work.”

Hanath will be joined in the primary election by Billy Ruemke, who announced his candidacy last month.  The first day of filing for a position on the ballot is November 11th
