FAYETTE CO. NARCOTICS UNIT SEIZES 2 KILOS OF COCAINE, $10,000 CASH

Cocaine and several thousand dollars in cash were found during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon near Flatonia, leading to the arrest of a San Antonio man.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics K-9 Unit, comprised of Sergeant Randy Thumann and K-9 Kolt, stopped a Volkswagen passenger car on I-10 at the 665 mile marker around 12:15 p.m. for a traffic violation.

According to Sheriff Keith Korenek, Sgt. Thumann received consent to search the vehicle after becoming suspicious that the driver was potentially involved in transporting illegal narcotics.

Kolt was deployed and alerted Sgt. Thumann, who searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 2 kilos of cocaine inside a cereal box, with an estimated street value of $200,000.  Additionally, $10,000 was found inside a headphones box.

The driver, 29-year-old Isidro Maldonado-Martinez, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Money Laundering, both felonies, and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
