Downtown Brenham is home this weekend to the 8th Annual Texas Arts and Music Festival.
Tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, visitors will be able to experience live mural painting, art displays, shopping and entertainment.
Festival board member and volunteer Jenny Van Dorf says the festival and the new art it brings to downtown are highly anticipated each year.

The new festival mural is being painted in the Commerce Street parking lot, between the existing tiger eye and armadillo murals. This year’s muralist is Houston-based visual artist Tyler Kay, who was raised in Cat Spring. Kay has commissioned works of art for entities including Converse, the City of Houston, the City of Groesbeck and Typhoon Texas Waterpark. She will be painting throughout the festival and will complete her mural on Sunday.
Tomorrow’s activities begin at 10 a.m. with the opening of the vendors and food trucks in the art village and the children’s business fair from 10 a.m. to noon. The music lineup features the Brenham Children’s Chorus at 1:30 p.m., Brenham’s own Nite Moves Band at 4:30 p.m. and Reverend Horton Heat at 7 p.m.
The art village will reopen on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also during the festival, the Plein Air Painting Society will be set up throughout the festival grounds, painting and capturing scenes of downtown.
All activities are free and open to the public. The Texas Arts & Music Festival helps to raise money for students in local art programs.
