BMS STUDENTS RAISE MONEY TO HELP GIRAFFES
After learning about a very rare, special giraffe that was born without spots and learning that many species of giraffes are endangered, a group of Brenham Middle School students decided that they wanted to help.
Students in Mrs. Zwahr’s 5th grade homeroom class organized a fundraiser, made posters, and worked as a team to collect donations.
One of the 5th grade students, Kynleigh Kidd, said that the reason she chose to be a part of the project is because she wanted to inspire the school to help the Giraffe population.
In two weeks, they raised enough money to be able to symbolically adopt a herd of giraffes. The minimum needed to symbolically adopt a herd through the Giraffe Conservation Federation is $100 and $40 for a single giraffe.
Another of the students, Aracelo Rodriguez-Gomez, announced that they had enough money to adopt three herds and two extra giraffes.
The Adopt-a Giraffe program through the Giraffe Conservation Federation will allow the BMS students to follow the lives of a few selected desert-dwelling giraffes in Namibia, Africa.
Brenham Middle School will receive pictures, stories, and participate in live-streamed webcams of their adopted herd all year long.
