UNEMPLOYMENT RATES IN WASHINGTON, SURROUNDING COUNTIES FALL IN SEPTEMBER

  

Washington County’s unemployment rate dropped for a third straight month in September. 

New figures from the Texas Workforce Commission show the county’s jobless rate fell from 4.6 percent in August to 4.1 percent last month.

The tally of unemployed residents in the county went from 702 in August to 620 in September. 

Overall employment numbers increased during that time, from 14,594 to 14,659.  However, the civilian labor force dipped from 15,296 to 15,279.

In September 2022, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.7 percent, with 566 people out of work.

The state reported an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent for the fifth straight month.

The jobless rates of area counties include:

• Austin County – 3.8 percent, down from 4.2 percent in August.
• Brazos County – 3.1 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
• Burleson County – 3.9 percent, down from 4.2 percent.
• Fayette County – 3.6 percent, down from 4 percent in August.
• Grimes County – 4.5 percent, down from 5.1 percent.
• Lee County – 3.5 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
• Waller County – 4.7 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
