BELLVILLE CELEBRATING 175TH BIRTHDAY NOV. 4

  

The city of Bellville is marking a tremendous milestone next weekend.

The Bellville Historical Society will host a day-long party on Saturday, November 4th to celebrate Bellville’s 175th birthday, with events including a parade, historical demonstrations, a baseball game and live music.

Festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. with a parade downtown, led by the Bellville High School Band drum line, starting on North Bell Street and ending at the Austin County Courthouse. 

Opening ceremonies will be held at 10:15 a.m. on the Austin County Courthouse lawn, presided over by County Judge Tim Lapham.

At 10:30 a.m., activities open on the town square, and they will include students in costume telling the history of downtown buildings, a program on German settlers culture at the library, a performance by the Concordia Gesang Verein at Huff Brewery, polka music at the Highway 36 Pilates Studio, antique car and firetruck displays, the Brahmas on the Square Museum, a performance by the Austin County Chorale, artist exhibits and children’s art, poetry group readings and students’ history essays.

Children’s games from the 1800s will start at 11 a.m. at Chesley Park, and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Bellville High School Drama Department will perform “Frozen” at the Chesley Park gazebo.  The Austin County Jail Museum will have a “High Noon Jail Break” reenactment. 

A Bellville High School Alumni baseball game will begin at 2 p.m. at Clark Park.  Former Bellville Brahma and professional baseball player Lucas Luetge is expected to participate.

The day concludes with a dance at 7 p.m. at the Bellville Turnverein, featuring David Lewis and his band.

Admission to the day’s events is free.  Tickets for the dance are $15 and can be purchased online at www.bellvillehistoricalsociety.org.  They are also available at Austin County State Bank and First National Bank of Bellville.
