LAKE CREEK DEFEATS CUBS 39-21 ON HALL OF HONOR NIGHT

Jakoby Dixon (Mark Whitehead)

On a day where the Brenham Cub Football Team honored four former players for their contributions, it was the Lake Creek Lions who unfortunately got the last laugh with a 39-21 victory on Friday night at Cub Stadium.

The Cubs got off to a good start. Jakoby Dixon capped off the opening drive by scoring on a two-yard touchdown run. After an offsides penalty by the Lions on the extra point try, Brenham went for the two point conversion and Dixon ran it in to give the Cubs an 8-0 lead with 9:09 left in the first quarter.

The lead didn't last long as Lake Creek QB Parker Smith fired touchdown passes to Tyvonn Byars and Ayden Leitz to make it 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Byars started the second quarter by scoring on a two yard run, and they also added the two point conversion to increase the Lions' lead to 22-8 at the 11 minute mark.

Jordan Harvey (Mark Whitehead)

Dixon would get Brenham back into the end zone on a 13-yard run. Bleu Cienega missed the extra point, but the lead was down to 22-14 with 3:56 left in the first half.

Byars broke loose again on a 64 yard touchdown run. Alex Abbott added the extra point to make it 29-14 Lake Creek with 2:25 to go in the second quarter.

Brenham would march down the field and score on a 1 yard run by Jordan Harvey with 21 seconds left. Cienega added the extra point to make it 29-21 at halftime. That would be the last time that the Cubs would see the end zone.

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

However, in the fourth quarter, Abbott would add a 45 yard field goal, and Byars would score his third touchdown on a six yard run to make it 39-21.

Brenham finishes the regular season with a 5-5 record, while Lake Creek finishes at 10-0.

Next Friday, the Cubs will take on Port Neches Groves at Indian Stadium at 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm.
