ELECTION DAY FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS, BELLVILLE ISD BOND

Today (Tuesday) is Election Day for the Texas constitutional amendment election.

Fourteen amendments are on the statewide ballot for voters to consider, covering issues such as property tax and homestead exemptions, teacher retirement, farming and ranching, and funds for higher education research, water and energy infrastructure, broadband, and state parks.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  In Washington County, designated polling places are the Washington County Expo Event Center for Precinct 1 voters, Brenham VFW Hall for Precinct 2, Brenham American Legion Hall for Precinct 3, and Blinn College Student Center for Precinct 4.  Voters must be in line by 7 p.m. in order to vote.

There were 3,013 ballots cast during the past two weeks of early voting in Washington County.

Meanwhile in Bellville ISD, today is the final day to vote in the school district’s $52.5 million bond election.  The first proposition calls for construction of a new junior high school and transitioning grades 3-5 from O’Bryant Primary and O’Bryant Intermediate to the existing junior high campus.  The bond also seeks to fund campus facility improvements to address safety, parking and traffic, HVAC, capacity, and age and condition.

The second proposition asks voters to ratify a tax rate of $0.9712 per $100 valuation.  The school district says the rate, which would be lower than the 2022 tax rate of $1.1352 per $100, is meant to help provide teacher salary increases.

Austin County’s four polling places are the Austin County Election Department, 804 East Wendt Street in Bellville; the Industry City Building, 725 Main Street in Industry; the W.E. Hill Community Center, 1000 Main Street in Sealy; and the Wallis Columbus Club Hall at 703 Columbus Road in Wallis.

  1. Lesson learned how can Austin County build a new JR.High and make improvements on 53 million and it costs Brenham ISD 250 million for a new JR. High and improvements? How does that work? Sure Brenham is much larger but not times five. We need different leaders on BISD just flat unacceptable we are wasting our time with that group and we do need a JR. High but @ reasonable price tag.
