SUSPECT IDENTIFIED, ARRESTED IN FALSE REPORT INCIDENT THAT CAUSED LOCKDOWN AT BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL
A suspect has been identified and apprehended in connection with a hoax call that led to a lockdown at Brenham High School last fall.
In a press release issued today (Wednesday), the Brenham Police Department announced its Criminal Investigations Division, in collaboration with DPS, has named 35-year-old Anthony Carrasco of Pasadena as the suspect following a thorough investigation into the incident at the high school on September 28th.
The incident involved a 911 call reporting a possibly suicidal subject near the school with a firearm and prompted a response by multiple emergency service agencies to ensure the safety of the school and its occupants. The school was locked down due to the nature of the call, but after a check of the vehicles and buildings on campus, the reported subject was not located, nor was a firearm, and the all-clear was given.
Assistant Brenham Police Chief Lloyd Powell said at the time that those types of calls had been happening at multiple school districts around Texas, and that they turned out to be false reports.
According to the release, Carrasco has been taken into custody in the Houston area and is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on other, unrelated charges. His transfer to Washington County is pending.
According to Brenham Police Lieutenant Curtiss Schoen, Carrasco will face a charge of False Alarm or Report. Per Texas penal code, the offense is normally categorized as a Class A misdemeanor, but becomes a state jail felony if the false report “is of an emergency involving a public or private institution of higher education or involving a public primary or secondary school, public communications, public transportation, public water, gas, or power supply or other public service.”
