CUBS OUTLAST CY WOODS FOR A 9-8 WIN

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team defeated the Cy Woods Wildcats 9-8 last (Tuesday) night at Fireman's Park.

The Wildcats picked up two runs off of Brenham starter Brody Hemann in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Barrett Kohring and Owen Finke drew back-to-back walks. Drake Bentke follow that up with a two-run double that brought them both in, and tied the score at 2-2. Later in the inning, Bentke stole home to give Cubs a 3-2 lead.

Brayden Goss came on to pitch for Brenham in the top of the 3rd, and was greeted rudely with a Wildcat home run to tie the game again at 3-3. Cy Woods would score again later in the inning to increase their lead to 4-3.

The Cubs came up with a big inning in the bottom of the fourth. Cannon Credeur led it off with a walk, followed by a double by Austin Maurer. Brady Rau reached on an error that allowed Credeur to score and tie it 4-4. Then, Kohring hit an RBI single, which scored Maurer with the go-ahead run to put Brenham up 5-4. Finke was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bentke drew a walk, which scored Rau to make it 6-4, Cubs. Luke Hardy brought home Finke on a ground out, and then Kohring scored when a balk was called on the Cy Woods pitcher. Brenham took an 8-4 lead into the fifth.

The Wildcats hit another home run in the top of the fifth to make it 8-5. The Cubs would tack on one more run in the bottom of the inning. Landry Mendoza singled, and later scored on an RBI groundout by Austin Maurer.

Cy Woods scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-8. That would be as close as they would get. Dawson Keim came into the game and retired the last three batters to secure the win.

Next up: The Cubs will next take part in the Brenham Alumni Tournament. They will host Stratford tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7:30pm at Fireman's Park (7:05pm pregame on KWHI).
