CUBS RALLY TO BEAT STRATFORD 8-6
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team tapped into some of that "Fireman's Park Magic," as the Sports Doc used to call it, as they rallied from a six run deficit to defeat the Stratford Spartans 8-6 on opening night of the annual Alumni Tournament.
The Spartans got things started with a couple of runs off of Dawson Keim in the top of the first inning.
Stratford added another run in the second to increase their lead to 3-0.
Then, in the third inning, they took advantage of some Cub miscues in the field to score three more runs and increase the lead to 6-0.
In the bottom of the third, Kohring reached on an infield hit, took second on a wild pitch, took third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a single by Owen Finke. Finke scored later in the inning on an error to cut the Spartan lead to 6-2.
Then, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Kohring reached on a fielder's choice and Finke singled. Drake Bentke then followed with a double to score Kohring to make it 6-3. Two batters later, Tanner Reese walked. Cannon Credeur would unload a grand slam over the left field fence to give Brenham their first lead of the game 7-6.
The Cubs added another run by Kohring in the bottom of the fifth after Stratford had a string of three straight errors.
The game was called in the bottom of the fifth due to the tournament's two-hour time limit.
Brenham improves to 7-5-1 on the season. The Alumni Tournament continues this (Friday) afternoon with games against Morton Ranch at noon, and Lamar at 7:30pm.
