MISSISSIPPI GROUP LOOKING TO REVIVE ST. MARK’S MEDICAL CENTER

An organization in Mississippi called Progressive Health Group is looking into possibly reviving St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

PHG, whose mission statement is to revive rural hospitals across the nation, sent a Letter of Intent to St Mark’s on March 7.

The Letter of Intent detailed their interest in re-opening the hospital, which closed its doors on October 12, 2023 due to financial problems.

St. Mark’s Board Chair Dudley Piland told the Fayette County Record that the letter is non-binding and includes a 90-day due diligence period during which PHG may terminate the agreement to purchase for any reason.

If an agreement can be reached on the terms and conditions of the sale of assets, it would then be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for final approval.

Piland said that if the sale is approved, PHG would then need the appropriate licenses from the State of Texas, as well as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid in order to operate.

If it is not approved, HUD would then go through with the note sale process.

If that happens, Piland said that there is no guarantee that the new owners would use it for hospital.

A final decision is expected to take about 3-4 months.
