WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS TOURISM, MUSEUM ON MAIN STREET PROJECT

Tourism will be a focal point of the next Washington County Commissioners meeting on Monday.

The meeting will open with a presentation on the impact of tourism in the county and the work done by the Visit Brenham/Washington County Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).

Following that, the court will consider a funding request from the DMO to use $50,000 in hotel occupancy tax reserves for the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street project.

The Museum on Main Street program brings traveling exhibits to rural communities across the country.  Brenham was selected by the Texas Historical Commission to host an exhibit, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America”, from December 7th to January 19, 2025.

Other action will include potential approval of an agreement between the county and 3R Hunting Services, LLC of Paint Rock to serve as the wildlife manager for Washington County’s school land in Tom Green County.  Commissioners accepted a request for qualifications from the company last month

The county is splitting the usage of the land between grazing and hunting, which commissioners say provides an opportunity for the county to possibly grow its revenue.  Money collected from the land, apart from what is paid toward general upkeep, is distributed each year to Brenham and Burton ISDs based on average daily attendance.

In other business, the court will:

  • Act on the execution of a product sharing agreement with Magnolia Oil & Gas Operating, LLC and co-op unit agreements entitled Razorback Co-op, Big Al Elephant Co-op and Tater Tiger Co-op.  County Attorney Renee Mueller said Magnolia is creating co-op leases with some of their wells, and these three include mineral rights that the county owns within the areas of consolidation.
  • Potentially enter into an agreement with CitiBank for purchasing cards.
  • Act on placing Hargrove Lane, located in the Hill Creek Ridge subdivision in Precinct 1, into the one-year maintenance period.
  • Read a proclamation declaring March 2024 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Hear monthly reports from the sheriff’s office, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables, elections and veterans service officer.

Commissioners will meet Monday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
