CUBS BEAT RUDDER 5-0 FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team picked up their second straight district win tonight (Friday) as they knocked off the Rudder Rangers 5-0.

Brenham got their first run in the top of the first inning. Barrett Kohring led off with a single, and stole second. He later scored on an RBI single by Drake Bentke to put the Cubs up 1-0.

In the top of the second, Tanner Reese drew a leadoff walk. Dawson Keim came in to run for him. Later in the inning, Owen Finke reached on an error, which allow Keim to come all the way around and score to make it 2-0 Brenham.

The Cubs then put the game away with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Brady Rau and Kohring started it off with back-to-back singles. Bentke walked to load the bases. Luke Hardy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Rau with Brenham's third run. Landry Mendoza hit a sacrifice fly to score Kohring, and give Brenham a 4-0 cushion. Grady Gee came in as a pinch-hitter and singled home Hardy to make it 5-0 Cubs.

That would be all Brody Hemann needed as he went six shutout innings to get the win. Keim came on and closed it out with a scoreless seventh inning.

Next up, the Cubs will head to Magnolia West on Tuesday night at 7pm (6:35pm pregame on KWHI).
