A ribbon cutting was held this morning for the new water well. The ceremony took place indoors at Burton City Hall, due to the weather.
The water well has been in the works for several years, from the planning and design to the construction and necessary testing. The project was contracted to C. Miller Drilling and was funded with $593,800 in grant funding through the Texas General Land Office, along with $675,000 in certificates of obligation.
Mayor Karen Buck said she is grateful to everyone who contributed toward the project, adding that it took a village to make this happen.
Joining the city council and city officials for the ribbon cutting were representatives from the Burton Chamber of Commerce, Citizens State Bank, Langford Community Management Services, Brazos Valley Council of Governments and Texas General Land Office. Also in attendance were former city secretary Angela Harrington, former county commissioner Joy Fuchs, Andrea Fischer from the office of State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, and State Representative Trey Wharton.
