The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team got their Bi-District series with Leon off to a good start with a 17-5 victory last (Thursday) night in Caldwell.

Reagan Roemer got things started with a lead-off single in the top of the first inning. She would later take second base on a wild pitch, and be bunted over to third by Kalli Pohl. Amaya Williams, then, brought her home with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Burton. Bailey Glaesmann singled as well. That brought Aerynn Huntsman to the plate, and she unloaded a three-run homer over the left field fence to give the Lady Panthers an early 4-0 lead.

Leon got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first to cut the Burton lead to 4-1.

The Lady Panthers picked up where they left off in the second inning by scoring five more runs. Abby Dowling, Roemer, and Pohl started with three singles in a row to load the bases. Glaesmann drew a bases loaded walk, which scored Dowling to make it 5-1. Huntsman grounded into a fielder's choice. Roemer was ruled out at home on a close play. The umpire ruled she was tagged, but Roemer disagreed. However, Pohl came in to score as they threw to the ball to first for a double play attempt. Jennifer Lopez hit a two run double that scored Glaesmann and Huntsman to increase the lead to 8-1. Lopez later scored on an error to give Burton a 9-1 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Williams walked and Glaesmann was hit by a pitch. They both later scored on passed balls to give Burton an 11-3 lead.

It would stay that way until the top of the sixth inning. Huntsman led off the inning with a double. Lopez reached on an error. Melanie Wood followed with a two-run single to score them both and put Burton in front 13-3.

However, Leon scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 13-5, avoid a run-rule, and extend the game one more inning.

The Lady Panthers put an exclamation point on the game with four runs in the top of the seventh. Pohl and Williams drew back-to-back walks. Glaesmann followed with a two run double. Huntsman had an RBI single, and Kelsi Hohlt added another RBI single to put Burton ahead 17-5.
