The Fortnightly Club of Brenham gathered today (Thursday) for its spring luncheon to give back to the City of Brenham.

Club representatives presented city officials with a check for $36,000.  The funding comes via proceeds from the club’s book sale held every February at the Washington County Expo and goes to benefit the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura said he is in awe of everything the club does to organize the sale and support the city.

City Manager Carolyn Miller said the funds allow the library to have additional programming, computers, summer reading and circulation materials.  She said the club helps make the library the best it can be.

The Fortnightly Club's "Bookhouse Babes" pose for
a silly photo after being recognized during the
club's annual spring luncheon. The group handles
the cleaning, pricing and sorting of books for the
club's yearly book sale.

The luncheon also highlighted the work done by the club members who clean, price and sort books in preparation for the book sale.  The group is affectionately called the “Bookhouse Babes”.

The Fortnightly Club and its contributions to the Brenham library will be formally recognized at an upcoming city council meeting.
