BUCCANEERS RUN-RULE GALVESTON 11-0 TO WIN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Blinn Buccaneers won the Region XIV South Division Tournament with an 11-0, five inning run-rule victory over the Galveston Whitecaps last (Sunday) night at Leroy Dreyer Field.

Shane Connell pitched all five innings to get the win.  He took a no-hitter into the fifth before it was finally broken up.

Blinn opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Cade Climie to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Bucs added to their lead with four runs in the second. Ethan Gonzalez had an RBI single. Tanner Reaves then came up, and ripped a two-run double. Brandon Bishop also brought a run home with a sacrifice fly. Those runs extended the lead to 5-0

Blinn added three more runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Coy DeFury, and RBI singles by Tony Vernars and Reaves. That made it 8-0.

The Bucs added three more in the bottom of the fourth to put the mercy rule into play. Bishop and DeFury had RBI singles, and Reave drew a bases loaded walk. Blinn then went ahead 11-0, which ended up being the final.

The Bucs will now get ready to face the North Division Champion in the Super Regional later this week.

San Jacinto was scheduled to play Navarro in that final, but they got rained out yesterday (Sunday). Their game is now scheduled for today (Monday) at 3pm in Corsicana.

If San Jacinto wins, Blinn will host the Regional. If Navarro wins, they will play at a neutral site.
