BELLVILLE CHAMBER, CAT SPRING AG SOCIETY RECEIVE $25,000 LCRA GRANTS

A pair of grants totaling $50,000 will benefit the Bellville Chamber of Commerce and the Cat Spring Agricultural Society.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and City of Bellville presented a check earlier this month for $25,000 to the Bellville Chamber to help pay for an 8-foot-wide, LED community message board to replace one that no longer works after a recent hailstorm.

The new sign, paid for with the grant and with $59,695 in matching funds from the Chamber, will be visible from Highway 36 when entering Bellville and uses improved technology to allow law enforcement, civic groups, and city, county and school officials to post alerts more quickly.

The LCRA is also contributing $25,000 to the Cat Spring Agricultural Society to assist in the completion of a new metal building that will serve as a community center.

The building, using the grant and $250,750 in funds raised by the nonprofit agricultural society, will be located on the grounds of the historic Cat Spring Hall.  It will include restrooms, roll-up doors, patios and a barbecue area.  It is expected to hold up to 300 people.

The two grants are among 44 awarded recently through the LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program.  Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July at https://lcra.org/cdpp.
