BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD BUDGET WORKSHOP

The Brenham City Council will hold a budget workshop next week.

Councilmembers will gather on Monday for dedicated discussion on the 2024-25 Fiscal Year budget.

During its first budget meeting on May 20th, the council reviewed upcoming expenditures over the next five years.

Some of the items mentioned at the workshop included the fire department’s new station to be built at the intersection of James Nutt Boulevard and Handley Street, as well as the hiring of new firefighters to staff the station, new emergency software for fire department dispatching, new body and dash cameras for the police department, and new police officer positions.

Other items beyond the budget will populate the agenda for Monday’s meeting.  First will be an executive session, where councilmembers will consult with the city attorney about a petition received from local property owner Roger Chambers requesting that 24.39 acres be released from the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.  They will also discuss a recent open records ruling from the Texas Attorney General’s Office about the release of information pertaining to the city’s contract with ETC Marketing, Ltd. for power services.

The executive session will be followed by a vote in regular session on an agreement with Geiger and Associates Public Relations for Visit Brenham media marketing.  The budget workshop will begin after the regular session.

The council will meet Monday at 8:30 a.m. at Brenham City Hall.  Should additional discussion be needed, a second budget workshop will be held on Tuesday, same time and location.
