WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS STATE RURAL LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANTS, EMS CHARGE RATES

Washington County Commissioners have a long list of items to run through on Tuesday.

Some of that business relates to Senate Bill 22 from the 88th Texas Legislature, which established a grant program to provide financial assistance to eligible sheriff’s offices, constable’s offices and district and county attorney’s offices.

Commissioners will act on a budget amendment for SB 22 expenses and to allow the county auditor to create a SB 22 fund for revenue and expenses for prosecutor, constable and sheriff’s office funds.

The first item using those funds for a purchase will come from the sheriff’s office, who is seeking to buy five Chevrolet Tahoes.

Unrelated to SB 22, commissioners will then consider an item acting on purchasing and funding for an A/C replacement at the county jail.

Following that, the court will look at rate structures for the EMS Department and possibly increase charge rates, based on the recommendation of EMS’ billing company, EMS Management and Consultants.

Later, commissioners will consider entering into a contract with J. Mendoza Tree Services for county-wide debris cleanup from the May 17th declared disaster.

In other business, the court will:

  • Vote on a resolution authorizing County Judge John Durrenberger, as the designated representative for Washington County, to execute closing documents with the State of Texas, acting by and through the Texas Transportation Commission, for the sale of real estate parcel P00065042.
  • Consider approval of updated jail medical job descriptions.
  • Consider going out for bids for a full-color LED outdoor monument sign and cabinet cover at the Washington County Expo using hotel occupancy tax reserve funds.  Bids would be due at 10 a.m. on August 22nd and accepted on August 27th
  • Act on terminating the county’s contract with Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP for the collection of delinquent taxes and approving a contingent fee contract with Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP for the collection of delinquent government receivables owed to the county.
  • Consider a resolution to adopt a 20 percent collection penalty to defray the cost of collection of delinquent taxes, penalties and interest due and unpaid as of April 1, 2025 and each year thereafter for delinquent personal property accounts, and as of July 1, 2025 and each year thereafter for all other delinquent accounts.
  • Potentially approve a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Hohenwalde School Road, consisting of 24.49 acres in Precinct 4.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
