BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS TO 12 CALLS BETWEEN SATURDAY, EARLY MONDAY
The Brenham Fire Department had a busy weekend, going out to 12 calls between Saturday and early this (Monday) morning.
Six of the calls were on Saturday. The first was reported shortly before noon at a home in the 800 block of West Wilkins Street for a gas leak. Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department arrived to find a gas leak on the pipe coming into the house. The gas department turned off the gas, and the fire department returned to service.
Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the 9600 block of Highway 290 East for a transportation incident. Members of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department arrived on location first to find a single-vehicle accident and cancelled Brenham units.
At 1:45 p.m., another transportation incident was called in from the 2200 block of Highway 290 West. BFD personnel found a single-vehicle accident with little damage. After checking for injuries and finding none, they cleared the scene.
Just before 6 p.m., Brenham firefighters were requested for assistance at a grass fire at Quarry Road and Yegua Lane. Gay Hill and Rocky Creek units were already on scene and requested equipment from the Brenham department. Brenham units made location and started mopping up the fire, returning to service once the mop up was done.
Around 9 p.m., the department received a report of a fire alarm at a home in the 1000 block of Briscoe Street. Upon arrival, units discovered the alarm was set off while the homeowner was cooking.
Moments later, another alarm was reported at Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and members ultimately found that a resident had activated a pull station, causing the alarm to go off. They reset the alarm and returned to service.
Around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to the 2800 block of Highway 36 South for a transportation incident. They found a two-vehicle accident that occurred in a parking lot. No one was hurt and no fluids were leaking, so they returned to the station.
At 2:45 p.m., BFD members were dispatched to the 11900 block of Highway 290 East for a grass fire. While Brenham units were enroute, the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department arrived on location to find a small grass fire and cancelled the Brenham response.
Shortly after 4 p.m., units went out to Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North for a transportation incident. There, they found a two-vehicle accident. The department checked for injuries and fluids leaking, but found none, so units returned to service once the roadway was open.
Approaching 5:30 p.m., an alarm was reported at the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South, but responding personnel were cancelled as dispatch advised proper code was given for cancellation.
Around 7:30 p.m., the fire department and gas department responded to a home in the 700 block of Durden Street for a gas leak. A leak was found on the meter, so gas employees repaired the leak.
At 5 a.m. today, Brenham firefighters were called to Pledger Road and Highway 36 North for a grass fire. Responding members of the Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department arrived first to find a small grass fire and cancelled the Brenham department.
