HUNTSVILLE COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT CUBETTES 7-6
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team suffered a tough loss in district play this (Tuesday) afternoon to the Huntsville Lady Hornets, 7-6.
Avery Maurer led off the first inning with a single, and later scored on an RBI groundout by Kylie Antkowiak to make it 1-0 Brenham.
In the bottom of the first inning, Huntsville took advantage of three Cubette errors to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead.
Brenham re-took the lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. Maurer reached on a one-out double, and then road home on a two-run homer by Sarah Mabie. Later in the inning, McKenzie Tiemann was hit by a pitch, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Antkowiak to give the Cubettes a 4-3 lead.
Huntsville scored two runs in the bottom of the third off of an error in order to take a 5-4 lead.
Brenham would jump back out in front in the top of the fourth inning. Kyla Garcia walked, and then came home on an RBI double by Maurer. Then, Mabie singled home Maurer to give the Cubettes a 6-5 lead.
The Lady Hornets tied it once again with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. They would later walk it off with a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
Kylie Baker took the tough luck loss in the circle. Of the seven runs surrendered, only three were earned. The Cubettes are off the rest of this week for Spring Break. They will be back in next Tuesday when they host A&M Consolidated at 6:30pm at Alumni Field (6:05pm pregame on KWHI).
