CITY OF BRENHAM BEGINS ANNUAL FIRE HYDRANT AUDIT

The City of Brenham’s yearly fire hydrant audit is underway.

The audit started today (Monday) and is done to ensure that all of the city’s fire hydrants function correctly.  The audit will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. by three crews, each consisting of three personnel, and is expected to last a week.

The city says the audit aims to improve long-term water quality by removing sediments from inside the mainlines, find any malfunctions of the hydrant or any related valve issues, determine weaknesses in the water distribution system, identify inadequate water volumes and pressures in the mainlines, and check fire flows at each individual hydrant.

During the audit, residents may notice a discoloration in their water.  If there is, they should open the cold-water faucets and let the water flow until clear, then do the same with the hot-water faucets.  If a faucet is running slowly, they should check the faucet screens for trapped particles.  If doing laundry, residents should run loads with dark-colored clothes first.

Should any water issues persist, contact the City of Brenham at 979-337-7400.

Drivers should slow down and take precautions, as they could see large amounts of water running along roadways.
