BLINN MEN’S GOLF PLACES FOURTH AT JACKSONVILLE INVITATIONAL
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College men's golf team worked its way to a fourth-place finish at the competitive Jacksonville College Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club in Jacksonville, Texas.
The Buccaneers' Blue team shot 29-over in the 12-team competition, led by a 10th-place finish for sophomore Cody Peters.
Tyler Junior College and LeTourneau University tied for the team title at 4-over.
Blinn's White team placed eighth overall.
"I thought this week was going to be a little different and it was," Blinn head coach David Johnson said. "We had some lineup changes and guys playing in different spots and sometimes playing up a spot or two wears you down mentally. Then the physical part breaks you down and sometimes you lose your process; I thought our guys handled the changes and adversity pretty well."
Peters finished 5-over across three rounds of play, followed by a 6-over, 11th-place outing for sophomore Adrian Rodriguez. Freshmen Broc Talamantez and Ty Chrisman tied for 18th at 9-over.
Sixty-eight golfers made up the individual field.
"It was a good tournament, but we could never quite get on a roll," Johnson added. "We made a lot of birdies, but then turned right around and gave them back, and sometimes that's golf. I know the guys will get back to work and get ready for our home tournament in a couple of weeks."
Blinn's season continues when it hosts the two-day Blinn College Fall Invitational beginning Monday, Oct. 20, at the Brenham Country Club in Brenham, Texas.
