NEW RECORDS SET AT AUSTIN COUNTY FAIR YOUTH LIVESTOCK SALE

Jett Hollis (Austin County Fair)

Another Austin County Fair is in the books, and the Youth Livestock Auction Sale brought some new record holders.

Jett Hollis set a new record with his Reserve Grand Champion Gelding, which went for $40,000. The sale far exceeded last year’s total of $12,000, and shattered the previous record of $18,500 that was set in 2022.

The next highest record breaker went to Lainey Davis, whose Grand Champion Halter Heifer sold for $35,000. That number was well ahead of last year’s $12,000 total, and broke the prior record, which was set in 2021 for $32,500.

Catelyn Story set a new record with her Grand Champion Swine that went for $27,400. That total beat out last year’s sale of $8,280, and topped the record set in 2019 with $20,320.

Stella Burson set a record for her Reserve Grand Champion Filly that went for $26,500, which broke the previous mark of $26,000 in 2023, and more than doubled last year’s total of $13,000.

Sydney Petrash became the new record holder for her Reserve Grand Champion Halter Heifer that took in $25,000. That broke the 2023 record of $20,000, and finished well ahead of last year’s $15,000 price tag.

Kadyn Davila sold the Grand Champion Goat for $14,000. That sale broke a 15-year record that was set back in 2010 for $12,000. Last year’s Grand Champion went for $8,500.

While not a record, still finishing well ahead of last year, Cutter McKnight sold the Grand Champion Gelding for $20,000. Last year’s Grand Champion went for $14,000.

This year’s Austin County Fair Youth Livestock Auction Sale was held in memory of former Fair contributors William “Billy” Jackson, Ed Maher Jr., and Chuck Scianna. All three had passed away within the last year.
