CUB FOOTBALL CRUSHES RUDDER 53-13 TO STAY UNBEATEN

C.J. Glover (Kaylee Roznovsky)

The Brenham Cubs had their third dominant performance in a row last (Friday) night as they crushed the Rudder Rangers 53-13 at Merrill Green Stadium.

Rudder actually got on the scoreboard first on a touchdown run by QB Sylas Sullivan to take an early 7-0 lead. After that, it was all Brenham.

Xyran Upshaw found Chris Guidry on a 71-yard touchdown pass. After Rudder got a penalty on the extra point try, the Cubs decided to go for the 2-point conversion. C.J. Glover ran it in to give Brenham an 8-7 lead.

The Cub offense exploded with 42 points in the second quarter to put the game away. Glover scored all three of his rushing touchdowns in the quarter, including runs of 11 yards, 48 yards, and 59 yards.

Upshaw found Guidry for two more touchdown passes, one for 70 yards and the other for 21 yards. The senior QB also added his own rushing touchdown on a 13-yard run, which gave the Cubs a 50-7 lead at half time.

With the lopsided score, the continuous clock was used for the second half.

Brenham's final score came on a 29-yard field goal by Bleu Cienega in the third quarter.

Rudder scored one final time on a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown.

With the win, the Cubs are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in district. Next, they finally get to return home next Friday night to Cub Stadium for the annual Homecoming Game against Killeen Ellison. Ellison is coming off of a 56-7 win over Waco. Brenham could potentially clinch a playoff spot with a win.
