HOUSE FIRE ONE OF 13 CALLS BETWEEN SATURDAY, EARLY MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FD

The Brenham Fire Department had a busy weekend, responding to six calls on Saturday, five on Sunday and two early this (Monday) morning.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to a crash at Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North.  They provided traffic control and cleaned debris from the roadway before returning to service.  There were no injuries.

Just past 11:30 a.m., members of the Brenham Fire Department and the Salem, Chappell Hill and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at a home in the 3000 block of Creekside Drive.  Smoke and fire were found in the dining room.  Units extinguished the fire and performed ventilation throughout the house.  Fire personnel rescued three dogs and a cat that were in the structure.  The scene was turned over to the owner, and all fire departments cleared the call.

A few minutes before 3 p.m., units were called out to a crash in the 2400 block of South Day Street.  They provided traffic control and removed debris from the roadway before returning to the station.

Fire alarms were reported just shy of 7:15 p.m. and close to 9:45 p.m. at Brenham High School, 525 AH Ehrig Drive.  Both calls resulted in firefighters finding an alarm malfunction.

A structure fire was reported close to 10 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of Matilda Street.  However, no fire was found at the location after checking the residence.

Shortly past 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the department went out to a transportation incident in the 1600 block of North Park Street.  There, BFD members found a single vehicle that hit a fiber box next to the road.  They provided first aid and returned to service after the vehicle was removed from the scene.

Around 7:45 a.m., a fire alarm was called in at Sealy Mattress, 1201 Highway 290 West.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and there were no signs of smoke or fire after a walkthrough of the building, so the alarm was reset.

A few minutes past 10:15 a.m., the department received a call for a dog stuck in a fence in the 1400 block of East Stone Street.  There, a dog was found stuck between a rod iron fence, but as firefighters approached the dog, it got scared and freed itself.  No action was needed.

Approaching 2 p.m., units went out to a home in the 1100 block of High Street for a report of a stump burning in the pasture next door.  They found a stump smoking with small flames and used tank water to extinguish the stump.

Around 9:45 p.m., firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department were dispatched to the 800 block of Glenn Driver for a report of a gas smell inside an apartment.  The fire department stood by while the gas department repaired a small leak.

Nearing 2 a.m. today, BFD personnel were called out to Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street, for smoke in the area.  Nothing was found on the outside of the building, but they could smell a strong odor of smoke inside the building.  They found a flower bed right beside the door was smoking from a discarded cigarette, so they used tank water to extinguish the smoldering items.

At 3:30 a.m., another fire alarm was called in from Sealy Mattress.  There was nothing detected from the outside of the building or upon checking the inside, so firefighters reset the alarm.
