BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL BUS SEAT BELTS
The Brenham School Board will meet Monday to discuss new state requirements for seat belts on school buses.
Senate Bill 546 from the 89th Legislature sets out new standards for three-point seat belts on buses by September 1, 2029. School districts across Texas are working through how to bring their fleets into compliance, whether by purchasing new buses or retrofitting their existing ones.
The item is listed only as a presentation, so no action is expected.
The discussion will come after Burton ISD trustees voted at their meeting this past Monday to authorize spending up to $420,000 for the purpose of updating its bus fleet.
In other business, the Brenham School Board will act on the purchase of wind screens at Cub Stadium, approval of the annual instructional materials allotment report and TEKS certification, the purchase of library books, and approval of budget amendments. It will also receive a spring tax collections report and review the annual board of trustee report for continuing education hours.
An executive session will be held to discuss a Texas Education Agency safety and security audit, as well as to consider professional contracts requiring board approval.
The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School. The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.
