FOOTBALL PREVIEW: KILLEEN ELLISON AT BRENHAM

Cub Offense

The Brenham Cub Football Team is getting ready for their annual Homecoming game tonight (Friday). The Cubs will be facing the Killeen Ellison Eagles in a District 10-5A Division II matchup.

Last year when these two teams met, the Cubs won 50-28.

Brenham enters the game coming off last week's 53-13 win over Bryan Rudder. The Cubs are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in district.

Brenham is led by QB Xyran Upshaw (Sr.), who has completed 50 out of 85 passes for 1,079 yards, 14 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He is also the second leading rusher on the team with 51 carries for 218 yards and five touchdowns.

The team's leading rusher is RB C.J. Glover (So.). He has carried the ball 95 times for 742 yards and 11 touchdowns.

WR Chris Guidry (Sr.) is the team's leading receiver with 34 catches for 799 yards and 15 touchdowns. Right behind him is WR Cartelle Brown (Sr.), who has 20 catches for 401 yards and two touchdowns.

Cub Defense

The Cub defense is anchored by LB Caleb Espinoza (Sr.). Espinoza has 42 tackles so far this season, 31 solos and nine assists. Right behind him in tackles are LB Kristian Prosper (Sr.), who has 38, DT Job Rodriguez (Jr.), who has 37, and LB Brooks Roznovsky (Jr.), who has 34.

DE Doyle Brown (Sr.) leads Brenham with 13 tackles for loss, and DE Jase Mueller (Sr.) leads the Cubs with five sacks, and nine QB hurries.

The Cubs average scoring 42.4 points per game, while giving up 10.9 points per game.

Meanwhile, Killeen Ellison is 3-4 overall and 1-1 in district. They are coming off of a 56-7 win over Waco last week.

Brenham Head Coach Danny Youngs gave KWHI a scouting report on the Eagles.

On offense, the Eagles are led by QB Marlyn Smith (So.), who has completed 102 of 158 passes for 1,619 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. Smith is also the leading rusher on the team having carried the ball 71 times for 429 yards and 11 touchdowns.

RB Evan Dowling (Sr.) has the most rushing yards for Ellison with 486, but he is behind Smith with 67 carries and six touchdowns. RB Laboris Creagh (Jr.) has 32 carries for 306 yards and a touchdown.

WR Prince Hall (Sr.) leads the team with 42 catches for 507 yards and four touchdowns. WR Juan Ramirez (Sr.) is second on the team with 28 catches for 467 yards and four touchdowns. WR Kae'Andre Sayles (Sr.) has caught 18 passes for 441 yards and eight touchdowns.

On defense, the biggest playmaker is LB Demetrius Perry (So.), who leads the team with 76 tackles, seven sacks, and 15 tackles for loss.

DE Julius Simon (Sr.) is tied with Perry for the team lead with seven sacks. He also is tied for second on the team lead in tackles for loss with LB Renaldo Johnson (So.). They both have 12.

Johnson is also second on the team with 62 tackles.

Coach Youngs talked about what he feels the Cubs need to do to win.
